After the boat trip, dinner and a cosy overnight stay await at Brostugan, idyllically situated right beside the Göta Canal.

Highlight of the day:
Enjoying lunch on deck with your dog while M/S Bellevue travels through the historic locks of the Göta Canal.

Day 2 – An 8 km Walk Along Bergkanalen: Nature, History and the Göta Canal
After a delicious breakfast at Pensionat Prästgården, a relaxing walk along the Göta Canal awaits – and, of course, your dog is welcome to join today's adventure.
Drive from Töreboda to Wassbacken, approximately 10 km from Pensionat Prästgården. This is where your beautiful walk begins along the car-free towpath beside the Göta Canal.
Bergkanalen and Vassbacken – A Walk Through the History of the Göta Canal

Walking along Bergkanalen reveals a different side of the Göta Canal. As you leave Vassbacken behind, the landscape gradually changes. Open farmland gives way to forests and rocky terrain, and the canal winds its way through a more hilly and lush landscape.
This was where the canal builders had to cut through the hard bedrock. The stretch between Lanthöjden and Tåtorp is known as Bergkanalen, and blasting through the rock to create the canal took seven years. Along the route, forests and ferns grow close to the water, and during summer you may find both blueberries and lingonberries growing in the area.

Vassbacken – A Natural Starting Point
Vassbacken is situated right beside the Göta Canal and is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and boating visitors. There is a restaurant and café here, and the leafy surroundings make it an ideal place to start and finish your day's walk.

Vassbacken also has an interesting history. During the 19th century, it was an important junction where the canal met the main road. There was a post office here, and the mail coach travelling between Mariestad and Karlsborg stopped at Vassbacken.
From Vassbacken, continue along the canal towards Lanthöjden and Tåtorp. At Lanthöjden, you will find the well-known obelisk marking the Göta Canal's highest point on land, 91.5 metres above sea level. From there, the walk continues through the wooded and rocky surroundings of Bergkanalen towards Tåtorp.
In Tåtorp, another historic highlight awaits: the manually operated lock dating from 1814. You can stop for a rest and may even be lucky enough to see a boat passing through the lock.

Along the walk, there are several lovely places to stop and take in the surroundings. At Lanthöjden, you can admire the historic obelisk before continuing beside the canal towards Tåtorp, one of the Göta Canal's most distinctive locations.
In Tåtorp, you can experience the manually operated lock dating from 1814. The lock is still opened and closed by hand when boats pass through, offering a fascinating glimpse into the history and operation of the Göta Canal.

After approximately 8 kilometres of walking, a well-deserved meal awaits at Wassbacken's restaurant before you drive back to Töreboda.
After your walk, enjoy a peaceful evening and another cosy overnight stay at Brostugan, right beside the Göta Canal. Relax with your dog and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere by the water.

Day 3 – Walking Along the Göta Canal: A Relaxing Finish
After breakfast at Pensionat Prästgården, feel free to prepare a small packed lunch from the breakfast buffet.
Today, you set off on the final walk of your trip along the Göta Canal – of course, together with your dog.
Follow the car-free towpath and find a peaceful spot beside the canal where you can sit down for lunch. Perhaps you will stop at a small jetty where you can dip your feet in the water while your dog rests after the walk.

Enjoy the peaceful canal, the passing boats and the beautiful surrounding countryside. It is a relaxing way to round off a few days filled with boat trips, walks and wonderful experiences along the Göta Canal.
